We now know that the old roughage standards are outdated and that your horse needs a minimum of 1,5% of their body weight in dry matter (this amounts to about 2 kg roughage per 100 kg body weight).

However, roughage does not contain all the essential nutrients. In most cases, easily absorbable minerals are lacking in the daily diet, just like vitamin E, which is also usually not found in sufficient levels in dried roughage. We can improve intestinal health by boosting the absorption of nutrients with pre- and probiotics in our modern horse feed.
